Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Summer Reading Program?

The Summer Reading Program is an annual 10 week program to encourage children to continue reading throughout the summer. Over 50 free interactive, exciting and educational programs are offered for children of all ages, infant through age 12. Children track their reading minutes for an opportunity to win great prizes including a Kindle Paperwhite eReader, LeapPad 2, and weekly backpack drawings.

When is the Summer Reading Program?

The Summer Reading Program begins on Monday, June 9, 2014, and runs until Saturday, August 16, 2014. It lasts for a total of ten weeks..

Who can participate?  How do we track our reading time?

Babies, kids and teens may all participate! We know babies can’t read, but their caregivers can read to them, and that is very important too!

You have two options when tracking your reading: paper reading logs, or online reading logs. Paper logs may be picked up at the library at any time. Click "Online Reading Logs" to the right to track your reading online.

I heard there are prizes. Is that true?

Yes, it is true! Children and teens who read (or are read to) at least 15 minutes per day may select one book from our Prize Book Bin. They will also be entered in the weekly drawing to win a backpack filled with goodies. Backpacks are on display in our lobby.

At the end of summer, grand prize winners will be randomly selected. Grand prizes for kids and teens are listed below:

Kindle Paperwhite eReader

LeapPad 2

Box set of The Hunger Games

Weaver's Orchard Family Fun Pack

Miller Center for the Arts Family Four Pack
